ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - SAT 4 FEB 2012
The
Annual General Meeting on 4 February was attended by about 70 members.
The Commodore expressed the Club’s thanks to retiring committee
members, Andrew Corfield, Nicky Barwell (who will continue to hold the
fort until a replacement is found) and particularly Artie Shore, who
has been such an ebullient figure in the club, especially with the
Cadets. Also retiring is Reg Rice, one of our longest-standing members,
who has expertly kept the bar accounts for many years. Matters arising
from the last AGM were referred to in previous issues of Foreguy. There
was a general acceptance from members that increasing subscriptions was
essential and still represented very good value. The simplification of
moorings charges was also approved. Afterwards, the annual awards were
presented by Marsha Head and a sumptuous buffet followed.

VISITS TO LONGROOM PORT CONTROL ROOM - 15 & 16 FEBRUARY 2012
Visits for members of the Cargreen Yacht Club to the Longroom Port
Control Room have been arranged for Wed 15 and Thu 16 February 2012
at 1400 in parties of 12 on each day.
The visits will be for about an hour and we will be briefed on the Port
of Plymouth and the work of Longroom. They will be an opportunity to
appreciate and discuss the problems of yachts sailing in close vicinity
to deep draught naval and merchant vessels in the Sound. Access to the
Longroom will be via the Camber Gate into the Royal Marines Barracks,
Stonehouse.
Bids to Tony Head are invited from members of the club by 10 February
latest (preferably by email or text to 07885-914148, alternatively call
(01752-550708). Please include your full name, and make, model, colour
and VRN of car for security clearance purposes. Also include your
preferred visit date; ideally indicate that either day will suit, to
give the organiser maximum flexibility in arranging parties.
Confirmation of security clearance and full visit joining instructions
will be sent out on Monday 13 February.
If the visits are over-subscribed, further visits will be arranged in early March.
If visits are under-subscribed, the invitation will be extended to other yacht clubs and interested parties to fill places.

STAY SAFE THIS WINTER
Owners keeping boats afloat this winter on swinging moorings are asked to remember the following good practice:
- Check your boat and mooring frequently (at least once each fortnight)
- Ensure that your strops are oversize and fit a lazy strop
- Connect stainless steel shackles to the top of the CYC swivel and ensure that they are well moused
Recovering boats is time-consuming and expensive - especially where third-party boats are hit on the way ashore
|
LOADSA RUBBISH
CYC does not have a rubbish
collection and we have to remove and recycle all our own waste. Anyone
who uses the Club is therefore asked to take their own rubbish home
with them.
